This summer, we're trying something new with the DAC. For the first time ever, we'll be hosting a "Summer Skill Share Series." We have so many talented members in the DAC who have skills to share. From mid-June through September, DAC members will host skill-building workshops for other members. We have workshops for all career levels and all experience levels! Some cool proposed workshops include:
Safety Planning Outside the Carceral State
Adapting a Process for Publishing
Creative Writing for Disabled Scholars
Your Shrinking Window of Tolerance
Social Media and Public Scholarship
If you're a member of the DAC, but haven't accessed the Discord server for a bit, this is a gentle reminder that we're around doing cool stuff! Right now, we're surveying community workshop preferences and collecting information so we can thoughtfully schedule these workshops. If you want to attend a workshop, I'd recommend hopping onto the server and filling out our survey so we can take your preferences into account!
Workshop hosts will determine the fee structure and scheduling of workshops, but we are trying to make sure that they are financially accessible. The more attendees who take part, the more we can spread out fee schedules. We want to honor workshop hosts, who are putting in a bunch of time, energy, and expertise, while also honoring the fact that summers are a often a tough financial time for academics.
Since this is our first time doing a workshop series, we're keeping it close to the community, but perhaps in the future we'll advertise these to allies as well!
Stay tuned for more this summer - we'll be updating our website with resources, compiling a list of disabled speakers and consultants, and creating simple resources you can use to promote the DAC within your own circles.
As always, thanks for being with us on this journey!
Best Wishes,
Nicole Schroeder
